RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL

The Research and Development Council plays a very important role at the Institute. It is composed
of 34 members, and its term of office lasts 4 years. The Chairman of the R&D Council is prof.
Józef Żurek, Ph.D. Eng. The R&D Council is authorised to confer the Doctor of Philosophy degree
in the field of the "Machine Building and Operation". Among other things, the Council's duty is to
supervise the course of the registration and conferment procedure for a doctoral degree, as
well as to organise a doctoral defence.
R&D Council responsibilities:
- passing the statute of AFIT;
- doctoral degree supervision;
- establishing the main scientific & development lines of Institute's activities;
- giving the opinion on qualifications of candidates for scientific and research posts;
- periodic assessment of academic achievements of scientific and research workers;
- giving the opinion on awarding scientific workers a scholarship;
- conducting the registration and conferment procedure for a doctoral degree.
Additionally, the R&D Council is responsible for:
- assessing and giving the opinion on selected scientific and research works;
- giving the opinion on scientific conferences organized by AFIT;
- putting forward a motion to grant an award for outstanding scientific achievements.
The current composition of the R&D Council for 2008-2012 was elected in 2008. The R&D Council
is entitled, pursuant to the order of the Council of Ministers, to give its opinion on every
issue concerning Institute's activities.
